Friday, November 20, 2010 Corduroy's Thanksgiving

Corduroy's Thanksgiving
HIGH: Literary Day :)
LOW: We are sleep training Oliver :(

Today we went to our local park to hear the story  Corduroy's Thanksgiving!  It was adorable.  They read the kids the book, then the kids made a little craft, and had a snack. The best part is the visit from Corduroy himself.  For this book Poppy and Sam joined us!
Sam and Oliver had fun getting to know each other.
Claire and Poppy had fun playing with toys before the book started.
Claire's favorite part, by far was meeting  Corduroy!
She really wanted Oliver to meet him so I had to get him out of his carseat (which woke him up).
She just kept standing in front of him staring at him.

After we left and Claire took a good nap, Mark needed help removing the staples in the dining room floor.  So Claire got on her "work boots" and helped her Daddy.
Love those "work boots".
Apparently Pete wanted to help too.
Then Claire helped hammer.  Things pretty much went downhill after this.  She almost drove the hammer through the flooring.  Sooooo she came and colored instead :)

As for our low, we started sleep training Oliver yesterday.  Oliver sleeps great but needs his binkie to fall asleep and sometimes will wake up in the night just for his binkie.  It is really simple, we just go in and pop the binkie back in his mouth and he goes back to sleep.  No rocking or anything.  But we decided that he is old enough to learn to self-soothe.  I am not going in there night after night to put the binkie in his mouth forever.  So the first night he did ok.  We put him down a little bit awake (after our usual routine of book, bath, and then nursing).  Well, within 5 minutes the binkie fell out of his mouth and he woke up.  We let him cry for about 10 minutes and walked in put the binkie back in his mouth covered him up and left the room. Then he lost the binkie and we waited 15 minutes and so on.   Well then he puked a little.  No problem I am tough.  Quick jammie change, no interaction and back down.  He cried for about 5 minutes and was out until TEN THE NEXT MORNING!!  Well, we continued this for nap and he getting soo much better. He did better at naps and pretty good tonight!!  He cries for less and less time.  And he has figured out that he likes to rub his silky on his face and that is how he usually falls asleep, with the blanket on his face (great)!! So we are making progress!  Keep your fingers crossed that it keeps going well and soon we will just lay him down and he will go to sleep on his own!!
